Description
Skilful Skyful is a series of tutorials which gradually teach traditional block patchwork stitched on the sewing machine.
Each instalment introduces a new technique, and includes full instructions for two 12″ blocks; one easy, and one more difficult, so that you can practice and develop your skills. You could combine the finished blocks into a Sampler Quilt.
This block comes from the fourth instalment: square-in-a-square units
The instructions are full of Carolyn’s extra tips for achieving perfect results, and link to pages on this website with photographs and videos.
They are free to download.
This “Mrs Brown’s Choice” block is also known as “Sawtooth Patchwork”. It is quite easy, and is a good skill builder, as it includes four Square-in-a-Square units.
If you would prefer to start with a more challenging block, Ribbon Star also uses square-in-a-square units.
The samples were made with Makower fabrics kindly provided by the company.
In this four page download pattern, Carolyn Gibbs gives you full construction details, including quick piecing methods and all the tips you need to get a really good result.
Try it out, using any three colours (Dark, Medium and Light) of your choice.
