I am a member of UK Quilters United FB Show Galleries 2019 Facebook Page. The idea is to create work for our FB Group to show in galleries at varying shows. Up till now it’s been postcard size work. It has been decided to make A4 sized pieces. A poll was created to decide on the first theme. Birds, Butterflies and Bees was chosen. You can create any design you wish on the theme.
Of course mine had to include Gulliver, and on this occasion his other half, Gail. I drew my design, as I felt it needed it.
My go to is whole cloth with reverse appliqué.

On this occasion I added a small piece of fabric to the bottom of the design to indicate water. I have also added sheer fabrics and beads to this design. A flower button in Gail’s hair. Little sheer fabric wings lightly attached for the bees, so they stand proud. Then a layer of sheer fabric over Gulliver and Gail’s legs to indicate that they are standing in the water.

Once bound I decided it needed a little something else, I found this very pretty butterfly braid and attached it with beads. Overkill? I love it! There are many of these little quilts being made by lots of UKQU members, I’m sure it’s not too late to join in if you wanted to. Head over to the Facebook page.

The quilts can be seen at WCQ&TS, at University of the West of England, Filton, Bristol 29th – 31st August and Craft4Crafters, Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, Somerset. 17th – 19th October.
Don’t forget, too the UKQU Website exhibition that will be touring with Grosvenor Shows from August this year featuring all the website competition winners.
