Are you looking for a lovely long-term project to get stuck into over 2018, maybe something you can do in front of the TV or on a long journey? Have you heard of curved English paper-piecing? Let me introduce you to Sewmotion’s Curve Motion Medallion Quilt.

Having made one too many hexagons, I started to wonder what other shapes could be EPPed. Thanks to the truly beautiful LaPassacaglia and Millefiori quilts, we all know that diamonds, pentagons, hexies and so on can be tessellated to create some fabulous designs, but what about curved shapes? So I had a play around, and inspired by the lovely Florence at Flossie Teacakes, I started developing this glue-basting technique using the revolutinary Sewline glue pen – other makes are available I believe!

I then took to my graphics computer programme and came up with these circular designs, similar to the Applecore, Clamshell and Dresden Plate shapes, but ever so slightly different! I knew these independent rings couldn’t be tessellated together, so they would have to be appliquéd down onto a background – more hand sewing joy for me! I then wanted to continue the handwork with some gorgeous big-stitch quilting, my current favourite, but didn’t really fancy working on such a huge quilt – so sometime in the middle of the night quilt-as-you-go came into my head, and all was good with the world!

I really enjoyed making this 82″ finished quilt in these gorgeous Alison Glass Sun Prints fabrics, so I thought why not include them in a block-of-the-month programme? I know many BOMs have you choose your own fabrics and colour combos, but if you would like to just get stuck into the sewing without having to worry about which fabrics to choose? how much fabric do I need? will I run out of fabric?? Let me do all that for you! In each of the 16 months of this BOM, you will receive all the Sun Prints fabrics, plus the grey background squares and finally the binding you need to complete the quilt top. You will also receive full easy-to-follow instructions with plenty of photos, as well as full size templates to cut out – you don’t even have to photocopy anything!
