We got to day 12 and our final block is the Woven Block. It is essential to keep checking your layout and to make sure you are joining the right pieces together.
You can choose to use four different fabric for your ‘woven’ strips or you can just work with two with a third colour for the corners. I rethought my block after first cutting out, it looks much better when you have a lighter colour for your four corners and keep the darker colours in the centre.
For a 12 1/2″ block you will need:
For each of the ‘woven’ strips (2 vertical, 2 horizontal) you will need:
1 x 6 1/2″ rectangle and one 3 1/2″ square
For the four corners, you will need:
4 x 3 1/2″ squares
Lay out your block pieces so you can see where each piece will fit.
You will be making four smaller blocks first so, join the pairs of 3 1/2″ squares, press
Lay them back in place
Join the sewn pairs of square to the 6 1/2″ rectangles, ensuring you are joining to the right side of the block.
Press and lay them out again in order
Join the top two blocks together and then the bottom two blocks
Press and lay them out.
Join the two rows together
Press
Trim to 12 1/2″
That is your 12 blocks completed. Come back tomorrow for the instructions for putting your quilt top together with sashing and cornerstones.
