I’m way past beginner, but a little afraid to embrace being an intermediate quilter.
When I let it, it gets quite scary, tackling techniques and patterns for the first time without anyone on hand to teach or show me.
I must have mentioned that quilting isn’t very popular in my part of Africa, us ‘natives’ that quilt are less than I can count on one hand (I taught myself to quilt at the ‘University of YouTube’ and from tutorials on quilting blogs). It’s been great finding a whole league of quilters online!
So, the beginning of this year, I decided to challenge myself and list out my quilting projects for the year, I included patterns that will enable me dip my toe gently into intermediate-ship.
I chose the Giant Star Quilt to start me off working with HST, a Hexies table runner as my introduction to EPP and I’m hoping to end the year with Quilt Art, which I know will look great with my African prints.

However, just to calm my nerves, I started out with my trusty squares in the Plus Quilt which is my first project for the year and last beginner level quilt for a long time.
I chose my fabric hoping to create a good balance between lighter value and darker value fabrics, careful not to dim the explosion of colours African prints are great for.
I love the way the quilt top turned out! I have started my first project on my Intermediate Quilter’s List. Stay tuned to my coming blog posts for more!

My fabrics choice…ready to start cutting!
