No matter how hard I try, my scrap mountain just keeps growing.  I feel another scrap quilt may be on the way, but I had some small pieces of fabric to use up too. These fabric key rings are great for using small offcuts, are fun to make and perfect for giving as gifts.

I’ve used Bosal In R Form as the base as it is a bit more substantial than cotton wadding.  The front uses small strips, so would be a great way to use some pretty selvedges.  The backing is brought over to the front to create the binding.

My first incarnation used ribbon to attach the clip, but in the wee hours of the night I thought it may not stand up to the wear and tear.  Next day in the studio, I replaced the ribbon with a fabric tab.  The button was added purely for decoration.  Just raid your button tin to find one that will fit.

If you would like to make one, I’ve put together a free pattern and tutorial.  I can’t wait to see your key rings.
