The popular name for this patchwork design reflects the romance of the Victorian Era with it’s love of elaborate decoration on household items & decor. Dresden, Germany was a center of 19th Century romanticism movement in art, one that included the fine decoration of porcelain. The plate were embellished with elaborate design using flowers, fruits & foliage. The beautiful plates would surely have been admired by women of the early century.

Dresden plate was also called Sunburst, Friendship Ring, Aster, Dahlia & Sunflower.

When I started making this Dresden Flower I looked at the daisys that grow the downward petals.

But this didn’t look quite right when transformed into patchwork.

So I decided to change it to a normal daisy…hope you like it!
