Explore the Plains

Most dinosaurs were herbivores, living on a vegetarian diet of ferns, conifers and other plants

This is a gorgeous fat quarter pack of dinosaur fabrics which have been designed by the Cotton Craft Company alongside the Natural History Museum.  They are stamped with facts and great images and I particularly love the fabric layered with Jurassic, Cretaceous and Triassic periods!  The colours include vibrant blues, turquoise, cream and rusty orange making this very suitable for girls and boys

I was so pleased to receive these fabrics for review.  I don’t have grandchildren but my sister has a gorgeous grandson called Freddie who is dinosaur crazy and just so happens to have a birthday in December.  The plan was to create a carry case for drawing books and crayons and on my next  shopping trip I found a pack of dinosaur colouring books, stickers and crayons… ideal to carry around.

The quality of this 100% cotton fabric is lovely and it made cutting, stitching and quilting a joy.  Because the fabric is all directional, care needed to be taken to keep the dinosaurs the right way up.  The bag was also quite long when opened and so some mixing of fabric was required within the design, and they blended so well. (as in the photo to the right).  For the quilting, invisible thread was used so as not to take the focus away from the fabric.  Inside included an elastic section to hold individual crayons, a small pocket for stickers and a large pocket for drawing books.  The pockets have dinosaurs strolling across the plains!

This was a great weekend project and if you would like to make one, the pattern is freely available for you to download.  I’m off now to make a second one for Freddie’s sister – though it will be ballerinas for her!
