Mo Jones is one of the hardworking Administrators who keep everyone happy over on the UK Quilters United Facebook Group. From time to time there’s exciting news to tell.
I am excited to announce that our Facebook Group, UK Quilters United will be seen live at two exhibitions this year in the West Country.
The first being at the West Country Quilt & Textile Show being held in Bristol at the end of August.
The stand there will have a Gallery displaying Fabric Postcards created by members of the UKQU Postcard Swap group, if you would like to join in and make one yourself why not pop over and join the group . The guidelines will be announced in the group at the end of this month(May). Its great fun making postcards, and they don’t take a lot of time. The theme for the postcards for this show will be Spring/Summer.
Yet another first for us, the Cornish members of the subgroup UKQU – Cornwall Members are creating a quilt to raise money for the Cornwall Air Ambulance. They are collecting colourful blocks made by their members to create a king size quilt as first prize in their raffle. The quilt will be on display at the Cornish Members stand for everyone to see with the raffle tickets on sale at the show, so we hope you will dig deep and help support this worthy cause. Many of us have been helped or know of someone who has been helped by the Air Ambulance, but did you know they receive no public money, relying on private donations and fundraising to raise the £3 million each year they need to keep going.
There are several sub-groups like this associated with UK Quilters United over on Facebook. With this particular group you have to be a member of the mother group and, of course, live in Cornwall. They already have 81 members who meet once a month in local fabric shops. A perfect place to meet for a quilt group I am sure you will agree and we hope you will think about joining if you live in the area.
The Cornwall Quilt being created by the Cornish Members will also be on show at the Craft4Crafters being held at The Bath and West Showground mid October. More details will be released nearer the date, but the theme for the postcards on display there will be Autumn/Winter. We are hoping to announce more events being attended by the Cornwall Members next year so watch this space!
We are looking for people from the Cornwall area to help man the stall at the shows. It’s great fun and you get to talk about quilting stuff all day with people. If you would like to get involved and help out at any of our events then pop me a personal message via the facebook group or leave a comment below and I will get back in touch.
