I don’t know about you, but when it comes to sewing, or quilt I just grab the first thread I can lay my hands on. C’mon I know some of you do the same, right? I know there are some purists that will only quilt with 100% cotton thread, fabric and batting. In an ideal world, where money is no object I would do this, but as I have loads of poly thread, so why not use it. After all my batting of choice is Hobbs 80/20, so I already have some poly in the finished product.

Therefore when I was sent this pack of 100% Polyester Thread by Gutermann, I was happy to test in a variety of situations. It was nicely packaged with 10 threads, in a variety of shades and a colour-coded tape measure.

I tried first to hand sew a couple of stuffed toys. The thread was softer than the thread I normally used and did not snag. I can see why Gutermann is popular. I next tried in my sewing machine, and again it “did what it said on the tin”.

As for the tape measure, I love the way it changes colour every 10 centimetres. I was a but a little disappointed that it  only had metric measures on both sides, as I am a bit of an old school gal. I was taught to sew in inches. However, I am sure it will come in handy when I finally get around to making a dress with some of my quilting cotton (yeah its in my to do list!!)

This thread pack RRP is £16.50, although I could only find it on line for £19.50. In the pack, you get 10 threads as well as the tape measure. Individually the threads sell for between £1.49 and £1.95. Not bad value if you ask me!
