OOO look what I got to review!

This is the new Counting Sheep collection from Makower UK. Gorgeous soft 100% quilting cotton.

It has bunnies with balloons and flowers, sheep, baby chicks, rainbows and clouds, letters and some super cute blenders! Grey and white are predominant, with some red gingham being the standout contrast, making it a brilliant collection for a baby boy quilt.

There are 10″ (approx) squares in each of the 16 designs so I added some white blender to give me a little more fabric to play with.

I made a plan (spot the glaring mistake) and more or less went with it. Maybe less than more..  I decided against Y seams in the blocks, life’s too short for unnecessary Y seams!  I fussy cut my block centres and did a single row around the edge of each. I added a white piece in the centre top for an appliqué name and saved a 4″ strip of the red and green ginghams for that. I somehow ended up a block down with not enough to make another centre so  I fudged some strips together to border the white instead, and added a few white strips into my blocks for continuity.  A little chain piecing later, and voilà! Since I don’t know any baby boys, I’ll save adding a name till later!

Here are some more pictures of the range…

Isn’t it cute? And so nice to have a not-girly pink collection. It’s always harder to make things for boys so they’ve hit the nail on the head here. I really enjoyed putting this lovely fabric together xx
