We, as the so called Blogeratti, decided to hold a retreat…and I wasn’t too sure about going to start with. As the excitement built between the girls and of course our young man, Jonathan, who put the wheels in motion for the venue, it started to grow on me. When hubby offered to pay, my mind was made up!
As the event got nearer, we set up a ‘secret squirrels’ group on Messenger to arrange a couple of surprises for Sylvia as it would be her birthday on the Saturday. It was decided we would each make an acorn instead of a card towards some bunting for her newly aquired holiday retreat.

Also we made up a fq cake…

So the day soon arrived and car was heaving with sewing machines…quilts…three quilters and of course hubby.
We were one of the first to arrive and eagerly unloaded our stuff and set up our workstations.
Soon the Blogeratti started to twindle in after long and tiring journeys, it was so lovely meeting up with them after just chatting on line.
I had packed several fabrics with all good intention of making some Christmas presents….hmmmmm….did that happen? Nooooo!
I got dragged into the frenzie of making Christmas Quilts for Christmas Dinners and decided to make up a top of Rail Fence design. Thinking I’d finished, after a short talk about the Children in Care, I wondered if I could layer up and quilt it…well…the longarmers had enough work with the numerous quilts that were coming in…so set to and simply quilted in the ditch for speed. Now, I was on a roll and wondered if I could complete a whole quilt, bound a labelled…oh yes I can (in panto style)….the label stitched on at the eleventh hour.

This is just a few of the quilts made up on the weekend from orphan blocks…

My first retreat came to an end all to quickly, it was lovely to meet fellow quilters…they’re a great bunch!
