From time to time our UKQU Website shop owners offer valuable advice for us. Stephen from Aberdeen Sewing Machines has this for us all this week to explain an important aspect of sewing machine technology. [and there’s a flash sale over at their website too for their Pfaff machines.. you heard it first here].
One of the questions we are asked regularly is: ‘Does the Pfaff inbuilt ‘IDT’ make a difference?’
The Pfaff Original ‘IDT’ or ‘Integrated Dual-feed Technology’ is designed to give precision stitches on all fabric types. But what is IDT?
IDT is an integrated even feed system that means the upper fabric feed mechanism works in conjunction with the lower feed. This helps to pull the fabric through together while the presser foot still “tries to restrain it.” This prevents puckering and stretching allowing the Sewing Machine to deliver outstanding results, even on challenging fabrics.
The IDT system provides rigidity to the presser foot like no other system.
IDT prides itself on delivering precision alignment of Plaids, patchwork and piecing. The system performs this and more, even on multiple layers from topstitching on quilts to several layers of denim.
The Pfaff Original IDT system is easy to use and can be engaged or disengaged quickly. A simple pull downwards of the IDT lever, to clip the arm into the back of the presser foot, engages the technology.
An amazing number of presser feet both standard and specialist are designed specifically for the IDT system. The possibilities are endless and results are fabulous for all from the Sewing Enthusiast to the Sewing Professional.
