Jo Hendy has a treat (or several) in store for quilters once again. I have tried hard to limit my Block of the Month (BOM) subscriptions, and I am a little ashamed to admit that I have some still waiting for me to start them (exactly how many is too many?) – and others that are awaiting basting and quilting, and then there are those that need a little bit more work to some blocks before putting them all together.
Anyway, when Villavin Crafts launched a new BOM, I just could not resist. Vintage Treasures is a real treat. The quilt combines piecing, applique and embroidery, together with additional embellishments.
As usual, Jo has taken the time to cut and label all the different fabrics that are used in the quilt. She sends through a starter pack containing all the fabrics that you will use in the quilt, a pigma pen for tracing the embroidery designs, the embroidery threads required for the stitcheries, stabiliser for use behind the stitchery fabric, Bondaweb for those who like doing applique by that method, and the pattern sheet for the first block.
The designer of the BOM, Libby Richardson, has included comprehensive instructions for the block. The pieces cut for the stitcheries are generously sized so they can be trimmed afterwards, as are the pieces for applique – meaning you can choose your favourite method of applique. Her instructions are clear, and the plan for the block (including the placement of the different fabrics) shows clearly the size of the piece that you need to cut. The instructions also show how the larger pieces of fabric will need to be cut in future blocks – to make the most of the fabric.
The stabiliser that Jo includes in the BOM starter kit is a light cotton fusible medium; this is ideal for using behind the stitcheries, so that the threads do not show through from the back.
The BOM can be found here. It has been very popular already, – the first set of packs has sold out; BUT never fear – more have been ordered, and Jo will put you down on the list if you want to join – just use the Message Us link on the page to send Jo a message.
Why not have a look at the other BOMs that Jo has? You can be sure that you will not be disappointed by the selection on offer, or by quilts that you will make to treasure.
