You’ll have to believe me when I say that in designing this quilt I absolutely did not have the series ‘Game of Thrones’ in mind: I must be the only person on the planet who hasn’t seen any of it! Rather, I was thinking about the country of Iceland, which is often described as the ‘land of ice and fire’ because it is both very cold and has a lot of volcanoes. This is a very personal issue to me, because my husband is a geologist and did his masters thesis on the Icelandic volcanoes – perhaps he may get this quilt as a gift …!

So, whether you are into volcanoes yourself, or just want to have something appropriate in which to snuggle up whilst watching Game of Thrones, this could be the ideal project! BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Basic piecing, all techniques and fabric requirements are explained in the pattern. This is *not* paper pieced. All measurements are in inches. A confident beginner could handle this with some care

My grandmother had a needle in my hand before I knew what one was, and it’s sort of gone on from there.

I’m currently based in Gloucestershire, but pretty soon, if all goes to plan, we will move back to South Wales – to the valley my grandparents left 85+ years ago in which the bulk of the quilts on which our ‘tradition’ was based were made.
