Description

I love walking in my garden at night-time -somehow everything seems more concentrated and intimate. This quilt was inspired by a lovely summer evening spent in the garden, surrounded by the perfume of rose, jasmine, night-scented stock, honeysuckle and nicotiana, a chilled glass of white wine in my hand and good company with whom to have a conversation. It makes me feel warm and happy even when it’s freezing outside!

Although it looks complicated, I break everything down into units, and if you can make flying geese and half square triangles you could make this, as long as you are careful about matching points. So why not bring back some of the sensations of a summer evening? The picture is of my completed top

BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Halfsquare triangles, flying geese, point matching
SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 94″ x 94″ or 78″ x 94″ – pattern gives instructions for both sizes

My grandmother had a needle in my hand before I knew what one was, and it’s sort of gone on from there.

I’m currently based in Gloucestershire, but pretty soon, if all goes to plan, we will move back to South Wales – to the valley my grandparents left 85+ years ago in which the bulk of the quilts on which our ‘tradition’ was based were made.
