Christmas is not Christmas without a Christmas tree to put all your wonderfully wrapped Christmas presents under.

As a person who never had or decorated a Christmas tree until I was 25 years old, I think I might just love the wonder of a tree more than anything else once we are in the festive season.

A couple of weeks ago, my wonderful friend Carol and I had a sewing day, and she showed me how to make the cutest little Christmas tree, and the best bit is, it was so simple to do…

All you need is 2 festive fat quarters, they can be the same or coordinating prints, your sewing machine, 2 sheets of A4 (or other paper) some toy stuffing, a needle and thread and if you want, some bells and star buttons. Carol had a Christmas tree template that she had downloaded from online.

We traced around the template onto brown paper and cut out the shape. I drew around the tree shape onto each fat quarter 3 times, being careful to keep the print facing in the correct direction. Once we had all 6 shapes drawn, we cut them out.

If using coordinating fabrics, place one of each print on top of each other, right sides together, so you have 3 sets and sew around them leaving a 6 inch gap at the bottom so that you can turn it right side out once sewn and to stuff it.

Next we turned the 3 pieces right side out being careful to push out the tree points and pressed them.

Then we laid them all on top of each other, lined up straight and stitched a straight seam from the top of the tree right to the bottom, I went over the seam a couple of times.

Carol was much faster than I was at getting to this point, and it was time for her to leave, bye Carol!!

Let the stuffing begin!

Stuff each of the 6 sections individually starting with the tops, making sure that you stuff to the tips of the tree branches. Once stuffed, sew up the openings at the bottom.

If you want to, you can add bells and stars to the top, I used 2 star shaped buttons on my tree.

I’ve had to hide my tree, as since I made it, I’ve had at least 3 different people try and take it saying I could make another one for myself, guess what I’m going to be busy making over the next few days…..
