What do you do with all those beautiful clothes when your baby grows out of them…how about a memory quilt.

When my granddaughter, Izzy, was a toddler, my daughter couldn’t bare to part with her  baby clothes so scooped them up and handed them to me to make a ‘keepsake’.

Izzys baby clothes….

plus a few more.

Always up for a challenge

I ‘oooed’ and’arred’ as I stroked each little tiny dress or babygro and wondered how she ever fitted into them.

She was very tiny, but after a few weeks in hospital…was allowed home…

                                                   thumbs up!

First, I sorted out all of  the cotton dresses and decided to use them for the sashings. Then picked out some of the stretchy fabrics to make the  block and checked out some templates of her favourite things….

…icecream…what toddler doesn’t like ice cream…

her cat and kitten Rico and Candy

dolls pram…

I wanted to use as much as I could from this little bundle             of  memories,  so cut off bits of a bib.

I snipped off buttons to use for the eyes for her cousins rabbits…

Charlie and Lola….

And saved cute                                                 parts of babygros.

The hardest thing was cutting the pretty dresses up into strips, it didn’t feel quite right, but hey ho, some things just have to be done.Took a deep breath and sliced away.

When the design was laid out, there were still lots left over so decided to make it into a quillow.

Tiny age labels

I stitched the tiny age labels ( yes, nothing was thrown away) into the seams.

……..and of course an embroidered label.

Izzy’s Quillow

I’m proud to say the quilt is still used today, and even prouder of Izzy, along side all three of our lovely granddaughters, who has grown from a little bundle of joy into a beautiful, talented 12 year old.
