I know that we are all fed up of not being able to continue with our normal lives, but hasn’t it been great having extra time to work on projects that we didn’t have time to do before?

Masks

I had several weeks of making masks and scrub bags like other quilters but then the need for these slowed down and I was able to get back to what I really enjoyed doing, quilting!

I was thinking about some of the projects that I have made over the last few months and I noticed a common theme through several of them, I was making quilts that were harder and more time consuming than I would normally make. I was doing this because I had more time on my hands and knew that I could get stuck into a project without having to put it all away till the next time I had some spare time.

I took the opportunity of having extra time and made six scrappy quilt tops, I have enough scraps for another six tops at least, yes they do breed!

Since beginning my quilting journey, if there was an easy way to make a quilt then that is the route that I would always take, but recently I have been learning alternative methods that may take longer but give a more ‘finished’ and ‘polished’ look to my quilts.

I have watched more YouTube tutorials and also used some of my books and magazines for designs that I would not have attempted before, as I thought that they were too hard, like sampler quilts for example.

I have also attempted making some simple skirts for my granddaughters, which they loved.

So, as much as we are fed up with being told when and if we can go out, we should relish the extra time that some of us now have to spend doing our favourite hobby.
