In January 2018 we set a challenge to the Six Administrators of UK Quilters United to choose a quilt from the ones the members posted onto the Facebook group feed.

They were transferred to Competition Corner and throughout February people are voting for their favourites.    We asked each of the Quilters to tell the story behind their quilts.

This is the story of Sarah’s Quilt

Sarah’s quilt was a Hannah’s Room  kit called Lunar Eclipse that she received as a Christmas present. She’s always loved science and the moon/space so that’s why she picked it. Picking your own Christmas presents is the only way to go if you don’t want to end up with smellies and new kettle! The construction is unusual as it uses Steam a Seam for the moon portion and Bosal in R foam for the background. So the strips are arranged then ironed down once in place, rather than being pieced. This also was her first attempt at free motion quilting so she did swirls all over the moon to try and allude to craters on the surface. She’s keeping this quilt (well it is her birthday present after all) and thinks we give away far too many of our creations.

She did a lovely job and is a worthy entry for the February Competition, head here to vote. There is a prize for the winner of our six chosen quilts, plus one lucky voter will win a pair of tickets to a Grosvenor Show of thier choice!
