I just LOVE Christmas…

The colors, the joy, the cosyness at home, my christmastree with all the beautiful souvenirs from our holidays, I just love it all.

It starts itching when I change my kitchen curtains from orange-autumn colours to checkered red and white…

I have this very simple lapquilt made from squares; one side is autumny, the other christmassy… That can come down too. And then I have to struggle with DH for my wallhanging X-Masquilt. In the Netherlands we have Sinterklaas, who arrives half November and has his birthday on December 5th. DH thinks I am not in my right mind if I want to make our home x-massy before this old do-gooder is in our land…

I think, since its a kiddy-party and we don’t even have kids, I have to have this beauty on my wall from early November till at least February!

I made this one while I was following the quilters starters course… I took the stars from the book “Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler”, designed the middle part myself, and took a lot from the appliqué work from internet.

It’s not a perfect quilt technically seen, but oh! How I love it.

Every year I make something for x-mas, most of them I gave away. You can’t keep them all, can you…

Now, on our annual big exhibition in the Netherlands organized by our Quilters Guild I just HAD to buy these gorgeous new fabrics… William Morris. Boy. So pretty.

And since I was ready to make something easy, I started another spider web. I made one before from old shirts from DH before his gastric bypass… And I love the proces of it. I learned it, by the way, from my dear friend Kitty Sorgen who lives on a beautyful Island close to Canada!

In my stash I had these Moda x-mas jellyrolls that I used combined with my new WIlliam Morris fabrics… Its so easy: cut strips from 2,5 inch, sew them together, take a spiderweb ruler and cut!

Isn’t that a pretty sight???

Then I made a kite pattern, the thick version, using my ruler again.

In between the spider webs you have to have 4 kites. I chose white on whites, to make a pretty contrast.

You sew them together in blocks, which I personally think is the most boring part… 🙂

And then slowly but surely it builds up:

I had it so far, and thought it was too small and too long, not harmonious. So I added a row extra:

Now I like the proportions better… BUT… I have a lot of triangles left over. Well… what to do?

I thought they will look great all around as little x-mastrees!  And low and behold, I have enough to make a beautiful row around the whole quilt!   Didn’t come that far yet, but I love the idea, and we have enough time left, don’t we???

Are you going to make one too? Go for it! Its not complicated, and the results are stunning!

Any questions left? Feel free to ask!

And uhmmmm…. Merry X-mas!!!
