If like me you find quilting a big quilt too daunting here’s the solution…QUAYGO!

Quilt as you go.

I’ve been dabbling in free motion quilting recently and I find smaller pieces easier to manoeuvre than the weight of a larger quilt. So when I was accumulating the recent blocks for the Garden Flower Blog Hop I decided to use these to free motion quilt and it worked well.

I then found a very easy way to sash these little quilted blocks using 1″ & 2″ strips.

For the vertical strips, cut the strips to the length of the side of the block.

Pin the 1″ strip to the front side of the block.

Press the 2″ strip in half and pin to the back.

So you have both strips pinned in line with the edge. This is quite thick so you may need your walking foot.

Take to machine and stitch 1/4″ from raw edge.

This is the back.

And this is the front.

Open out the 1″ strip.

And flip it over to the next block and pin.

Stitch a 1/4″ from the edge.

Press the seam lightly on the right side.

Turn over to the back.

Pin the folded edge over to cover the raw edges and pin.

Hand stitch this edge.

Repeat along the horizontal row of blocks.

Measure the finished horizontal length  and cut  1″ & 2″ strips as before (add a little and trim after)

Pin the 1″ strip all along the front top edge of the joined blocks.

Flip to the back and pin the 2″ strip as before.

Add it to the next row of blocks as before by machining the 1″ strip on the front and the 2″ strip on the back.

Pin & hand stitch along the back as before.

Repeat with all the horizontal rows & bind to finish.
