When you think of ‘eco-friendly’, wadding may not be the first product that comes to mind however Vlieseline, in their continued commitment to sustainability, have introduced several products to their Eco-Friendly product range including R80 which I’ve been using in a few projects recently.
The most notable thing about this wadding is how soft it is, given that it’s made from 100% recycled polyester and therefore aren’t any natural fibres, I was really surprised by how soft the texture and feel is and how thin it is as well. It’s very lightweight making it perfect for a variety of projects including pouches, which is exactly what I made with mine. You can find a tutorial to make your own zipper pouch here.

Something to note is that whilst super soft, it’s also quite fluffy and fluffs up more when cutting/once cut so some fibres did come off and attach themselves to my cutting mat (nothing a quick wipe didn’t fix) and I did have to clean my machine needle bed and bobbin case after quilting because there was more lint than usual but other than that I can’t say there are any cons to using R80 – not that those mentioned are really cons!

The R80 worked really well between the fabric layers when quilting and went through my machine smoothly, there was enough support without creating bulk which was especially great when attaching the zipper and top stitching the layers down as well.
