“A lightweight, soft, sew-in wadding made from bleached cotton with scrim, allowing an excellent combination of a soft hand feel and a lightweight construction while still providing significant stability and support. Especially developed for quilts and light coloured fabrics but is also very well suitable for lightweight but warm jackets and coats.”
Sounds too good to be true right?
Wrong! It’s soft, it’s drapey and it’s a dream to work with. I’d even go as far as saying this might be my new favourite wadding!
I had a particular project in mind for my first use of 276 – hand quilting panels for a tote bag pattern I had been pattern testing. I spent hours fussy cutting fabrics (precious fabrics) and making two Sisu Quilt Blocks (a great pattern by Grey Cat Quilts) in my favourite style of EPP and I absolutely loved them.

So the last thing I wanted to do was mess it up with wonky quilting – thankfully I didn’t (in my opinion), due to the soft and lightweight nature of 276 I was able to manoeuvre and manipulate my quilt sandwiches as much as I needed to and could fold it or roll it to get to the centre without any unnecessary bulk.

Both needle and Aurifil 28wt thread passed through all the layers easily and gave me the texture I was after. It is worth noting that if you want “super puffy” quilting or very defined texture/puffiness, then this might not work for you. When constructing the bag itself, all layers went through the machine just as easily – a total win in my book if a wadding can be used for all the things!
Here is the finished SISU Tote Bag stuffed with all sorts of wonders on a recent mini break.
