Hi everyone, my name is Sarah and quilting is my escape from real life! I am married to Matt and we have one son, Ryan, I work full time for the NHS. Some of you may already know that our son is autistic, he is very intelligent and funny but needs lots of extra time and support from us.
I have been quilting for around 2 years and really enjoy the UKQU community, there are so many lovely people who share their knowledge and advice. I find when quilting that I can relax and distract myself from every day life. Here are a couple of quilt tops that have really challenged my piecing skills.
Recently I became the owner of a Handi Quilter Simply Sixteen long arm machine, it is a fabulous machine however you don’t instantly become an excellent quilter when purchasing a long arm, that would be too easy now, wouldn’t it!
I was thrilled to be invited to blog about my new long arm and document my journey of learning to free motion quilt on my new machine. I understand how intimidating it can be seeing all of the amazing quilting done by long arm professionals and hope that my journey will give people inspiration to try free motion quilting (FMQ). Here is a picture of some of the first stitches I did on my new machine, as you can see my FMQ journey is just beginning.
My plan is to blog about my long arm, threads, needles, basic designs, ruler work and most importantly I will explain any issues I encounter and how to overcome these issues.
I look forward to our FMQ journey together 🙂
