One thing I love about appliqué is that you can make it as complicated or as simple as you like. With raw edge appliqué you can create images that have a childlike quality. Something fresh and simple can be pleasing to the eye. This was the motivation behind the creation of this Appliquéd Flower block.
You will find the details of how to create the block in the PDF will be available here, along with all the other blocks in the series here. I have kept the design as simple as I can. There is a template for a leaf, a petal and the centre. You will have to cut four petals and three leaves to create your design. You can follow the placement in the pattern, or else you can arrange them to suit yourself. The flower is fused to a pieced background to give extra interest.
How you finish the block is entirely up to you. I used some free motion quilting to give the block some softness. How I’m going to use it, I’ve not decided yet. What will you do with yours?
I will be teaching the technique used in making this block in a live online class in October. As soon as the date has been finalised, I will let you know. In the meantime, have fun and don’t forget to share your photos.
