A huge hello to everyone and welcome to my first blog on this great website.  Some of you will already know that I am a Longarm Quilter trading as Capricorn Quilting where I quilt for others, and I am also the Handiquilter Educator for the UK.  I also love to create my own quilts and have been lucky enough to have won a number of ribbons, both with my own quilts and those of customers.

The Longarm quilting machine I use is a HandiQuilter which is made in the US and last year I was given the honour of being made a HandiQuilter Ambassador.  I own two longarm machines, an Avante which has an 18″ throat and the biggie in the photo is an Infinity with a huge 26″ throat. They are both mounted on 12′ wide frames, I love them both and they live in a dedicated studio in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.  I also have a couple of other longarm machines that are used for the classes I give, but more about them at a later date.

There are many myths that surround the art of Longarm Quilting and over the first few posts I want to ‘bust’ some of these for you.  I also want to give you many hints and tips on how to get the most from your quilting, be it through a longarm service, or when you are quilting them yourself on your domestic.

I will take you through my journey as a quilter for others and also through my journey whilst creating competition and show quilts, and explaining why they differ so much from ‘normal’ quilts that are used every day.

I hope you will find this both entertaining and informative, and I hope we will have a few laughs along the way as well.  So please join me in this journey with my next post and don’t forget you can ask me questions if you wish.  See you in the next one 🙂
