“Would you be interested in doing a book review?” Sylvia said. “It will be fun” she said. Well ok – maybe she didn’t say that bit! I jumped at the chance. I have always been an avid reader of both fiction and n…

Thank you Lyn! A very reasoned, thoughtful and considerate approach. And exactly what is needed in the social media arena!
I know here at UKQU it doesn’t ( often) get as heated as in other areas. But I feel the insensitivity and inconsiderateness often seen on social media is part of a slide towards the kind of “I’m all right Jack” attitude that ultimately sees communities at war, as we have seen so often on our TV news.
And as an old chap I know would say-with his tongue in his cheek- “ it just isn’t part of growing up and being British”! -
I am sorry Cheryl. Evidence we should check, and check again. You are not Lyn. And apologies Lyn!

That is such a sensitively written but absolutely hitting the mark piece – thank you so much.

Well said Carol, this was a very interesting read.

Very nicely written 🙂

This is my #notgoing blog – as in #notgoing to Festival of Quilts.
I sometimes think that I would love to go – then I think no. I would love to see the quilts on display and the shopping opportunities, but who am…

Where has the time gone? I haven’t been here for months! Sorry – life took over, including a little (big) birthday to celebrate. However, with everything else going on I have managed to slot in some quilting to ke…

Now don’t get too excited – I am just excited because I have started back on it! I have to undo 2 huge lines of quilting – my machine was not set up properly (still getting used to it) and this is an absolute swine to quilt because it is so thick, but even that is not daunting me. I will get this done! Thanks for the encouraging comments always! Xx

You are very kind. I felt very strongly that I needed to tell people what was going on in my head about this quilt. It has huge sentimental value obviously, but I surprised myself when I realised that I was terrified of it. I hope that by telling my story it might help others in a similar situation. I have also had another session with the…[Read more]

I know that I have mentioned The Beast in my previous blogs, and I promised to explain. It is the time for explanations.
My husband, David, died 6 years ago and in the intervening time, I have also moved…

I love this story, it’s so relatable, the way we build things up in our heads but I’m glad you’re working on it again and your daughter is going to love the quilt when you give it to her

I have also had another session with the Ystradgynlais Quilters since I wrote this, so I have made more progress! Maybe my daughter really will get it for her birthday this year!

The Beast is looking very good although I did get quite excited because I thought you had finished it! I can sympathise a little, I felt a lot of relief when I had finished my last quilt! I am looking forward to your February blog post!

Another point is that a quarter is a quarter of a yard / metre, whether it is cut fully across the width of the fabric or half way across the width. An eighth is an eighth of a yard / metre, again regardless of how it is cut. I hope this makes sense.

I don’t believe that they are the same. The difference between ‘fat’ and ‘long’ as far as I understand them is that ‘fat’ is a cut that goes partially across the width of the fabric, whereas a ‘long’ cut is across the width of the fabric.
Thank you for the comment – I certainly don’t profess to be any sort of authority, so I will go off and check. -

Am I having a senior moment but isn’t a Long Quarter the same as a Fat Eighth? If not I’m confused as I’ve read them to be the same.

Great blog Cheryl! You go girl! I look forward to following your progress.
Also, thanks for mentioning the #notgoing campaign which was fun for us, but unfortunately lost in the aftermath of FOQ pictures. Perhaps the UKQU website will search #notgoing on FB page and compile a picture gallery, as we all did extreamly well for the duration of the FOQ, one #notgoing piece even made the pages banner for the page!

Nice review. I have a question please – I think u have seen this used in a video previously, and felt that there seemed to be a lot of fabric wastage. Did you find this, or were the left over pieces usable? Thanks.

Ok – you have done it. After reading this, I MUST get the quilting done on the quilt for my daughter made out of her late dad’s rugby shirts. (it was meant to be her birthday present a year ago, and a Christmas present before that…..) Hoping it can be a Christmas present this year. Thank you. xx
