Hi I’m Dotty aka Rebecca.

I get my name from my Roller Derby Days, when I was known as “Dorothy Galeforce”. I chose the name as one of my favourite films is the Wizard of Oz as well as paying homage to my late grandmother (Dorothy). Although my Roller Derby days were short lived and I have since hung up my skates, the name kinda stuck.

A little about me. I grew up in Milton Keynes but followed my life-long dream I moved to North Wales a year ago. I still work full time in IT, and my current commute is 3 hours a day…. Yes that is not a typo …… three long hours! But it’s a small price to pay to wake up every morning in the Mountains!

One of the best things about the change of scenery is that I now have my own Sewing Studio, or as I like to call it my Room of Requirements. (Yes, I am Harry Potter fan too!)

Quilting has become my way of relaxing. I try to do a bit every day, either in my lunch break on in the evening. Whether it is Binding my latest make, or Making up a few Hexies, I am never happier than when I have fabric in my hands.

When I am not sewing, I am curled up on my sofa under a quilt watching a good film while cuddling the love of my life, Lola the Pug, one of our three cats or (most rarely) my long-suffering Husband!

Enough about me, where did my passion for fabric come from. For that I lay the blame firmly at my Mother (and her Mothers) Door!

I have many, many happy childhood memories sitting with my Nan or Mum learning the basics of sewing. As such I have been sewing since my pre-teens, a mere… cough cough… 30 years ago!!! I started making Dolls clothes, and ended up over the years, making my own clothes and home furnishings including reupholstering our old sofa. More about those years in future Blogs!

My passion for crafting and all things fabric lead me to Quilting about 3 years ago, when I decided I wanted to make a T-Shirt Quilt to show case all my Roller Derby Tee’s (which incidentally I still have not done!).

I was very quickly seduced by Moda Fabric’s and in particular I discovered Pre-Cuts and ……

“Jellies, Layers and Charms… Oh my!!!!”  … wow… I was not in Kansas any more!!!

For me precuts were like OZ. The wide range of designers and their different colours and patterns. I loved the deliciously thick, “strokable” quality they have, bearing in mind until this point I was more used to cut-price market stall poly-cottons. Eak yeah I know!!!!

This is my first time Blogging. I hope to talk about my own experiences of using different products and offer any handy hints and tips I have found on the way. I am a bit of an eclectic magpie in my approach to my crafting (and life!) I flit between colour ranges, and designers as well as different techniques.

I have been known to make my own patterns, or adapt once I have purchased, to make them more my own. I will be sharing these with you all along the way. I look forward to sharing my journey with you all. I thrive on feedback so please don’t be shy in sharing your thoughts (good or bad) as well as suggestions for future Blogs.
