When https://ukqu.co.uk asked for a couple of us to review some Natural History design fabrics from The Craft Cotton Company , I didn’t hesitate to respond. Our granddaughter, like most children, is just mad about dinosaurs, she also has her 4th birthday coming up, so an ideal opportunity to make something special. But what?
The parcel pack of five fat quarters of fabric duly arrived, tied up in a pretty ribbon. It’s always a thrill to open a packet of fabric. I opened up each carefully folded fat quarter and stroked it…you understand!
The fabrics are 100% cotton and are lovely colours of orange, beige, blue and turquoise. The prints are very interesting with dinosaurs, fossils, bones etc.
The Craft Cotton Company have a license with Natural History Museum to produce ranges of fabrics…this design is called ‘Explore The Plains’.
I particularly like the fact they are also educational as some of the prints show their full Latin names…I must learn these to keep up with the three year old!
I decided to make a storytime book pillow with two pockets for bedtime reading. I wanted to display the lovely designs without cutting them up too small, so decided on strips. This needed some sashing to divide the strips and luckily I found a blue (watery design) in my stash…perfect.
I added a couple of dinosaur silhouettes to the two big pockets, the background fabric was a perfect landscape for this.
The fabrics were fun to use and good to handle with little fraying, so if you know of a little one who loves all things ‘dinosaur’, these fabrics will make a perfect gift.
