These are two more challenging blocks associated with the third instalment of Carolyn’s skillbuilder series “Skilful Skyful”.

One of a set of twelve inch patchwork blocks available as free downloads.

These can just be used to practice new techniques, made into bags or cushions or could be combined into a Sampler Quilt.

This two, three or four colour Dutchman’s Puzzle block is of moderate difficulty, and is a good chance to learn a quick-piecing technique for making Flying Geese units.
Instructions are also included to use Carolyn’s “Pressing for Perfect Points” technique to obtain a really good pinwheel centre.

Alternatively, the Flying Geese units can be arranged differently to make a Mosaic block (main illustration)
