Many years ago I was in our local W.I. group, and my job was to organise the speaker’s calender for the following year. This was challenging trying to find speakers to suit us all. When it came to November I volunteered to do the Xmas craft evening, I had no idea what we would do to suit all members but I would worry about that nearer the time.

Well time passes very quickly, and I needed to put my thinking cap on. It needed to be pretty simple to make something in about an hour and not all the 30 members were crafters, so decided on the Xmas angels and Xmas cones.

I needed to do a lot of preparation for the evening, first thing was making a list of their choices to source the fabrics etc. For the Xmas cones I decided to cut all the small squares beforehand (there were hundreds), as I knew that many would never have heard of a rotary cutter, let alone use one…the thought makes me shudder.

For the Xmas angel I prepared all the machined pieces beforehand as knew there would not be time on the evening. All they needed to do was assemble them and have fun.

After a quick demo, I handed all the kits out and they set to, making their cones and angels.

There was a lot of chatting…of course, it’s what we ladies are good at…and a lot of hilarity especially when coming to do the angels faces. One member, who hadn’t bought her specs, put a little too much red too near the eyes and it looked like a demon angel…oh how we laughed.

A great evening was had by all and they were all very pleased to take something home that they had made.

As part of our Xmas week you can find the free pattern for the Xmas angel here…
