When I was asked to review a product, if I am being honest my first impression was yay! Free Stuff!!! When a small padded envelope dropped on my door mat (complete with Lola Teeth marks!) I was intrigued to see what I had been sent.

I was sent a Sewline Aqua Eraser. Its packaging claims that it would “gently erase water-soluble ink marks and ceramic lead pencil marks”. Interesting huh! (Confession Time. I only own Frixion Pens. <gasp> I know there are mixed views on these but as I generally only mark for piecing my theory is any marks will be hidden in the seams.)

So off I went to research Water-Soluble Pens and Ceramic Lead Pencils.  What a variety of different colours styles and brands. I purchased 3 types that seemed to be from well known quilting vendors and/or well known brands. When they arrived I decided to do a side by side test. For a control medium,  I also used some of “those” pens.

So far so good. Now I have marks to test, I needed to fill up the Aqua Eraser. As you may have noticed from my blogs, I am not one to follow instructions, so I when I first tried to fill the water barrel of the pen, it didn’t work. However, once I followed the Simple Instructions the fill up was easy (who knew!)

So with loaded barrel in tow, I proceeded to use the Aqua Eraser on each line.

As you can see in the picture above, The water-soluble Pens were no match for the mighty Aqua Eraser. However, and surprisingly the Ceramic Lead pencil (by Sewline too) did not dissolve or erase as hoped. Moreover, as expected the marks made by the Frixion pens still remained. I would have been very surprised if they had been erased,as they disappear with heat not water. That said the ink did seem less vibrant after using the Aqua Eraser.

After waiting for the fabric to dry the marks looked like this:

Surprisingly the mark that was most prominent was the ceramic lead pencil made by Sewline. The other pens marks (including the Frixon pens) had either disappeared completely or had significantly disappeared.

In summary, would I pay money for the Aqua Eraser? If I was doing a lot of marking on my quilt top, or where pen marks could be seen on the finished item, YES Definitely! However, if I was just marking fabric for piecing, probably not. But that says more about me than it does the product!

A Pleasing 8/10 for me (would have been higher if it erased the Sewline Ceramic Lead Pencil Line too)
