A beautiful set of fabrics from Makower has been sent for me to play with. What wonderful designs and a gentle soft hand to it. All the usual Christmas suspects are here, snowflakes, trees, reindeer etc, but in very different colour ways. Not the usual greens and reds, but a subtler collection including more unusual colour combinations such as black background and all over stars, holly and stripes. But what to make?

I’ve been feeling a need to make some figures recently, and this fabric spoke to me of Christmas elves, I think it was the all over small fabrics that did it, and the stripes of course. Ideal elf legs

There was no plain fabric for his body so I used some calico from my stash. Embroidered a charming little face and Eric was born.

The red snowflake patterned fabric is perfect for his Christmas hat. A little fake fur as hair / trimming and his outfit is started.

The same design in a beautiful green ideal for his warm fluffy jacket, the addition of a large button and I think he is done. I made him and his clothes up as I went along. I would encourage anyone to give it a go. If you really don’t think you can wing it there is lots of inspiration and patterns to be found after a quick search on the internet. I really enjoyed making him and using this beautiful fabric. A shame not to use some of the rest………..

A similar little head made with cute elfy ears

Now who is this going to be? This time the holly and star fabric make the most perfect jacket and skirt, a bright pink net from the stash and stripy legs and a little starlet is born.

A couple of cute Christmas friends, made using the most divine Christmas fabric and a little bit of imagination. The elf on the shelf can go eat your heart out!

Merry Christmas

They’re so cute, your imagination and creativity is fantastic.
