In my last blog I discussed the New Years resolution I had agreed to, it did seem a daft idea but I’ve actually completed a ufo! If like me you start projects and then distracted it’s quite a nice feeling when you’ve accomplished a item that seemed like it was never ending. My son was even more pleased than I was with the finished quilt (the cat was quick to approve too). He’s claimed the ‘here we gnome again’ quilt from this is a great pattern that I completed in 2019 as a block of the week which was easy to keep up with. If your new to appliqué I can not recommend fatcat patterns enough.

The other part of the resolution was to read one of the elm creek novels a month. For those who have not heard of this series, these books are based around a quilting group, it’s a great story and I’ve learnt the history of some blocks. Don’t get me wrong these book are very enjoyable but I appear to have a friend who devours books like a hare whereas I seem to read at a tortoise pace! So I also need to read a book a month to catch up! I try to read every evening but I appear to pick up the book then fall asleep promptly, I do have a window each week when I sit waiting for my sons guitar lesson. This part of the resolution is the hardest part for me, I need to work harder to achieve this challenge.

The next months ufo is underway, I’m currently echo stitching a Hawaiian quilt I began in a workshop last summer. This piece is something very different to anything I have every attempted before, whilst decorating my sewing room last year this piece has also had a place to be displayed in my mind. It’s unusual for me as it’s very colourful, this unique piece has inspired me to try more colourful pieces and I have purchased more vibrant pieces of fabric. Just the binding and hanging loops to complete this beauty.
