I’ve been having a sort out of my cupboards and finding all sorts of half-finished, or even barely-started bits and pieces left over from 30-odd years of teaching. My most recent find has been a bag full of applique bits some of which may have featured in a previous blog here a few years back. I decided that I needed to complete them all and perhaps add to them to make something more useful than a collection of random squares of varying sizes and turned to EQ (Electric Quilt) in the hope that I might have put some of my patterns into the library there. No such luck – I have a feeling that many of them pre-date computers.

But in trawling through EQ’s own library of applique designs I came across one that just struck a chord in light of what is going on in Eastern Europe. It is called Sunflower in a Heart. I changed the EQ colours  and have done some templates for a 12 inch block which you can download here.

We may not be able to do much, apart from donate money to charity, to help those whether they are staying or fleeing Ukraine but somehow stitching a blue and yellow sunflower seems to help. Perhaps if you download this free design you might donate the money you could have paid for it to the charities on the ground.
