Hi and welcome to my first block design (exciting !).
I joined this blog hop following an email I received from Craft Cotton Co (via UKQU). I am involved in writing tutorials and blogs for them and the shout out came for anyone who wanted to get involved in the Blog Hop and I thought, why not ! It was a great introduction to the art of quilt blocks and designs.
I’m a relative “newbie” to the art of patchwork and quilting, most of my sewing revolves around dress making, gifts and soft furnishings. I am a member of our local Fabric and Art Group and took part in their “mystery quilt” earlier this year. Needless to say it is still a WIP.
I decided on the lily as they just have to be my favourite flower. I always received lillies for my birthday, Christmas and our wedding anniversary so there are some sitting in my fire place from our anniversary. I just love the smell, even though it is quite strong.
I have tried growing lillies in my garden, and have had a mixture of success and failure so I must get round to reading up more about them.
This particular quilt block was created from a photograph that I had taken recently. I did have to put on my thinking cap on how to capture the centre part, I hope that you like what I have achieved. I used the art of free motion embroidery for this section as I thought it was the best way to achieve a natural look. I love a bit of free motion embroidery, you can just let your imagination run away with you !
You can find the pattern and instructions for my block in the UKQU Merchandise Shop
Enjoy making this block and I would love to see some of your creations. Pop over to my instagram page @designbygill66 or like my facebook page, Design by Gill.
