Christine Hutchins wrote a new post, Preparing for a Retreat 3 years, 7 months ago
I’m writing this a week before the Bloggerati retreat – and it could well be the last Bloggerati retreat. I feel sad should this be the case, as the retreat has given me the chance to meet like-minded people and to…

Christine Hutchins wrote a new post, A new machine! 3 years, 11 months ago
For some years I have been eyeing up longarm quilting machines, dreaming of having one. I bought a Gracie frame for my domestic sewing machine, with the intention of becoming fairly proficient on it, but the frame…

I love a Block of the Month – I mean, I REALLY love them. I will confess to having several on the go at the moment, and one of them is Girl’s Day Out. I saw this advertised on the Villavin Crafts Facebook page, and…

Christine Hutchins wrote a new post, EPP – glue basting or thread tacking 4 years, 3 months ago
I am a bit of a sucker for different gadgets and gizmos – anything to make life a little easier. As an example, I used to find joining the ends of binding a bit tricky – until I bought the binding tool. That cer…

Christine Hutchins wrote a new post, FINISHIn praise of a word for the year 4 years, 4 months ago
Last year I had a word of the year for the first time – my word last year was ‘FOCUS’. This year I’ve chosen ‘FINISH’ as my word for the year.
It may seem strange to have such a word as my word for the year – a wo…

Christine Hutchins wrote a new post, Focus revisited 4 years, 7 months ago
It is a chilly early October day – well, it feels chilly to me as I’m sat here on my chaise longue in my sewing room, surrounded by fabric. That sounds very exotic and posh doesn’t it? I’m going to let you carry o…

Running a 200 Club means advertising it – and so it needed a logo.
The whip has been cracked – and it does seem a while since I last wrote a blog. I’d love to say it is due to me doing so much sewing. Howe…

Christine Hutchins wrote a new post, Book Review – Sarah Payne's Quilt School 5 years, 2 months ago
Search Press describe themselves as “The world’s finest art and craft books”, and Sarah Payne’s Quilt School certainly is deserving of this description. This is an ideal book for those starting out on their quiltin…

Christine Hutchins wrote a new post, New Year – new word? 5 years, 3 months ago
We’re a month into the year already – well, we will be by the time you read this, it will be a month. Did you see posts about people trying to decide what their word for the year was going to be? Well, this year I d…

An admirable ideal for this jumbled year. I think mine should be “ finish”.
-
Good luck with your running challenges Christine. I think the word Focus is a good one to pick if you are going to be picking a word, and I wish you luck with your focusing throughout the year, maybe you can do a blog in December to let us know how you got on…

Celebrations blog hop
When it was suggested that the Bloggerati might like to take part in another blog hop, I thought I was prepared. I then saw what the topic was – Celebrations, and in looking at the list of s…

What a super idea! Though I am an avid user of all scrap textiles, this idea was eye-opening to me! Thank you!
-
Thank you – and sorry for the late reply. I also like using scrap textiles, although I’ve recently started to question my sanity in saving and collecting all the little pieces, snippets and thread ends. I’m starting to be a little more ruthless with what I keep and what I don’t – but only after holding on to it for a while!

Such fun block!!!

Thank you – and sorry for the late reply. I certainly had fun doing it, and it is always great when a project comes together in the way you envisaged it!

I’m not one to shy away from a challenge, and so I jumped at the chance to be part of the UKQU blog hop – especially when the theme was flowers. I instantly knew what flowers I would choose – tulip…

Jo Hendy has a treat (or several) in store for quilters once again. I have tried hard to limit my Block of the Month (BOM) subscriptions, and I am a little ashamed to admit that I have some still waiting for me to…

Christine Hutchins wrote a new post, How do you store yours? 5 years, 10 months ago
One of the questions I see often on various Facebook posts and pages is ‘How do you store your fabric?’. Then there are the posts that show how people have stored their fabric – you know the ones – those pictures app…

An organiser like me! Though I am very envious of your cupboard. It is very tidy!
-
Thank you Maggie – I am an organiser, but not when it comes to my scraps! And the cupboard looks tidy because I was searching for the missing block I mention in the blog and tidied it up; I found the block, but not in the cupboard at all!! The rest of my sewing room is not so tidy – but that is due to the amount of stuff in here. The sewing cupboard was certainly a worthwhile purchase 12 years ago.

I also use storage boxes for my fabric, separated into rough colour families. We deliberately bought a metal framed bed so that I could store the boxes underneath – keeps them out of the light to avoid fading
-
A good idea for keeping the boxes out of the light. I have quite a few of my boxes under my quilting frame.

And a good time was had by all Chris! Nice to know I’m not the only one in ‘socks’ to machine sew (and iron!) and think I’ll check out the ‘bottom’ of my machine too!
