A good thing about belonging to a patchwork and quilting group, apart from the social element of spending time with like minded people, is that you end up doing things you wouldn’t otherwise do. Of course it de…

It was on my birthday a couple of years ago that one of my friends had an accident. This was no ordinary accident. She is still (just) in her 40’s, although her big birthday is this month (and she will probably h…

I hadn’t planned on this being the title or subject of my blog for this month (if truth be told, I had planned it for late January or even February – but life got in the way, and I got frustrated with the photos I w…

Lovely article! I really resonate with this, especially sewing fake fur. I had a neighbour turn up a couple of weeks ago with her great niece Miranda, who is 7, who had to do something for school for Australia Day. Luckily she had a grey velour velvet pyjamas/tracksuit to start with, and a hairband. 2 hrs later she was a cute koala bear complete with white fake fur tummy & koala ears. She watched me like a hawk while I was cutting and sewing, completely fascinated. She loves coming round here to watch me sew, last time it was a quilted case for her sunglasses & a mini shoulder bag in Mermaid material. I think there is a young sewer in the making there!
The best bit was the lovely thank you card from Miranda with a photo of her in the finished outfit complete with kola face paint.
I think your Panda legs were a great improvement, very cuddly!
Reference the theatre performance Christine, relieved that those eyebrows and beard were only temporary!

Once again, this show has not failed to impress me. Now – my mum had a saying: “Better to be born lucky than rich”, and I tend to say that whenever I win something! Once again, I was lucky enough to win tickets for t…

Christine, it sounds as if you had a lovely day out with your friend and her daughter. So pleased you met Mo Jones in person, she does so much for UKQU in terms of the stand at that exhibition & the UKQU postcard swaps, & now the A4 mini quilts initiative will be really exciting. You are absolutely right though about trying other things. I was an amateur dressmaker, then professional embroidery designer & I’m now a quilter, but even now it’s fun to try new things! I am going to local community craft classes on bag making, felting, & ceramics in the near future, and I even made soap, bath bombs & candles a few weeks ago, & the wreath making class I went to, before Christmas, was really successful. So create away!

A lovely account of a great weekend – and I loved looking in the bag – the tape measure certainly came in very useful over the weekend! I’ve not used the fabric yet, but will find a project for it all. I love bags – especially fabric ones, and seem to be adding to my collection regularly!

Thank you Christine. Yes – I can’t get enough of fabric bags either…. always so useful. Lovely to meet you and great we managed to chat.

This sounds like a really exciting challenge, and is clearly enjoyed by many members. Our group is just starting a challenge involving wool, tweed and patchwork and/or quilting. Should be varied!

Thanks Maggie. Your challenge sounds an interesting one. It would be lovely to see what is produced.
