The new Library of Birmingham replaced the Central Library and was opened in September 2013. Situated on the west side of the city centre at Centenary Square, beside the Birmingham Rep and Baskerville House.

Like many quilters, I love fabric. I have enough to last me some years, so have made the decision to buy very little fabric this year. However, this resolution does not stop me from receiving fabric, and I was only…

Ami Richards wrote a new post, Losing your sewing mojo 6 years, 4 months ago
Oh, what’s a girl to do when you’ve lost your sewing mojo……try and get it back of course!
Let me start at the beginning.
I store all of my fully made up quilts flat on the spare bed in the guest bedroom…

-
I find this happens too. My remedy 2 fold:
* get out my scraps and sort into colours-that really gets my creatives going
* if it hasn’t worked, sew crumbs if fabric together relatively randomly. I take bits out of the bag until one “ goes”, sew it to the last one and so on. No rhyme or reason, but….I am enthused!
If nothing else I can trim up lovely crumb squares ready for the next time!-
I got out my scrappy squares and just sewed them together in two’s then fours and I now have half a scrappy quilt ready to be joined up. Mojo is back, now I just don’t have the time, too busy at work!

Nina wrote a new post, Stash busting idea – hair scrunchies 6 years, 4 months ago
This is the third blog in my stash busting series and this time I’m looking at trying to use up some pre-cut and left over fabrics from other projects.
Looking at my fabrics, I found some jelly roll strips and…

With one year coming to an end and another one starting, we tend to pause and take the opportunity to look back at the year that has been. Hence this may be a good time to do a recap of the books we have read so far…

Some of you may have read some of my stories in the past, there were stand alone episodes about breaking an Olfa cutting mat, how to tackle a Moda Scrap Bag, a charity quilt that got taken to Kosovo on an Aid Convoy…

You really are a creative genius! Shrink wrapping a ready-done tree: I love it.
-
It works! 5 mins from slash the shrink wrapped corpse to lights plugged in and working. Sprout Gate took longer but we’ll worth it when I saw the disgusted look of horror on my husband’s face xxxx

Just catching up on my reading of blogs, and wondering if you got many comments a out the wreath? Also wondering if it will last through to next Christmas?! Very unique wreath, I’m sure no-one else has one like it xx

A gentle start for you today as we begin with the humble square. It may be the simplest of blocks, but the humble square can be very versatile, using different colour combinations to create complex patterns…

Christine Hutchins wrote a new post, A Little Bit Controversial…perhapsThe Bloggerati Song Challenge 6 years, 5 months ago
I really liked the song title I was given all those months ago, when I thought the challenge and idea was something I could get my teeth into. After all, I knew I had the perfect fabric somewhere in my stash. As soon…

-
I love that you used sweet wrappers, all very exciting using different ‘fabrics’. Brilliant interpretation
-
Thank you Jane! It takes a bit of a ‘leap of faith’ to use sweet wrappers in something that you are going to sew. I was concerned that the sewing may rip the papers, but sometimes you just have to go for it!
-
-
Great interpretation and execution!!! Amazing how quickly volunteers appear when sweets are involved!
PS. No wonder I called you Teresa when you even mimic her blog titles LOL.-
Thank you Nina! Yes, Teresa was in my mind when I thought about the title – I couldn’t think of anything better as a title!
-
-
Well my first guess was Sweets for my Sweet, but I soon realised that was wrong. What an incredible piece this is!
-
Thank you Maggie! Some members of my quilt group thought Sweets for my Sweet as well.
-
-
Totally amazing, so much creativity!
-
Thank you Teresa – your blog titles inspired my blog title – I couldn’t think of a better title, as I realised that several parts of my quilt could / would be controversial. When I include religion / religious symbols in my quilting, I am aware that it could cause offence somewhere…this quilt almost sort of did that at our quilting group, where one of our members hates the song with a vengeance (mind you, we also tease her about parsnips, mashed carrot and swede – she can’t stand swede, junket…amongst other things – it makes our group Christmas dinners quite entertaining! She does tease me about my stash…)
-
You have not seen my Merry Sproutmass …..coming soon 30th Dec to a blog page near you!
-
-
-
I thought Sweets for My Sweet too, but love this
-
Thank you Candy – it was fun making it, if a little nerve wracking, wondering how it would go down with others…I have just about got to the stage where as long as I like it, it is fine. I also get to thinking that it is a process, that whatever happens, however it turns out, it is something that was just waiting to come out, and has something to say – that it is another step on the journey.

The building is fascinating. We hated it when it appeared with its ‘old bicycle wheels’ struck on the outside but when it is lit up in the evenings it is stunning. The inside, and the roof terraces, are clean and inviting with lots of comfy seating places to read your books or just contemplate the world or view the exhibitions. Rumour had it that they had run out of money to stock new books so it isn’t rammed to the rooftops – but technology plays a part in that, this is a fab design and looks lovely in the picture frame Sue. The frame reinforces the clean lines seen on this modern building. Well done – it is a lovely representation! .

What lovely quilting! It certainly complements your accurate design. Angles and curves all in one place. I really enjoyed reading this blog. It brought back many memories, as I used both the lovely old Reference Library ( when I was a student) and the Central Library. This was new then (when taking my Finals in 1974). I was rather shocked that it was being replaced after only 40 years and very amused to see that the upside-down ziggurat has been replaced by a another, right-side-up ziggurat!
