Carolyn Gibbs wrote a new post, Basic Rotary Cutting 8 years, 5 months ago
Using a rotary cutter is a great way of accurately cutting fabric pieces of the shape and size required. It doesn’t take long to learn how to use it – a few tips and a little practice will soon have you cutting wit…

Brilliant Carolyn! I use a Rotary cutter all the time and love it. However, I find it sometime moves when I get to near the end of the cut. I have bought a suction handle thingy that clamps on the longest ruler and that has solved it. Thanks for the info.
-
Glad you have found something that works for you.
-
-
A nice, fairly comprehensive guide. The only thing I could add is to watch the sneaktpy rulers which have an extra 1/2” on two sides.
-
I agree! I really wish manufacturers wouldn’t make them – so confusing!
-
-
Very clear instructions. Thank you very much.

Thank you Sue – glad to help

Thank you, loving the site…plus it’s good to know my small pile of UFO’s are not that extreme yet hahahaha.
-
The site is looking great. Looking forward to all the new developments.
-
Well done Juliette, getting one finished, albeit by someone else, is a starting point. Also well done with the website. Little acorns and all that.
-
Great intro Juliet, yes you have lots to finish, I know I have seen the boxes lol. Looking forward to your next one. The website is such a good resource centre for us all.
It is great to see your dream is coming true, through you I have found some amazing friends, which includes you at the top. -
I love the orange quilt Juliet – traditional with a twist of citrus! You really must finish it.
-
And thankgoodness you did. Or none of ys would be able to see lovely things like these!
-
These tops are fantastic Juliet, you must finish them when you can. And thank you for starting up this site in time for when I began my quilting journey, it’s been a treasure trove of information, advice and the wow factor for me.

I was asked to review fabric. Woohoo, I’m sure we all know how it feels to be waiting for a parcel of fabric. So exciting. I had no idea what was going to drop through the letter box.
And then the day arrived, a…

Thanks Carolyn. That’s really helpful especially about matching lines.
-
Glad to help Helen – I love using stripes, and will be writing more about this in my blog from time to time – maybe you would like to “follow” me to make sure that you don’t miss anything!
-
-
I will be trying the mitred corners, it looks far easier than how I’ve been trying to do them.
-
That’s great, Gwen. Let me know how you got on!
-
-
Never tackled mitred corners but they look so neat I am going to give it a go. Thanks Carolyn.
-
They do look so classy, don’t they? Hope it works for you!
-
-
Helpful! I wonder if it would eliminate those wavy quilts?
-
Do you mean wavy edges caused by borders of different lengths? Yes, it might do! Although my tip about this is to run a machine tacking stitch along the very edge before adding the binding, and to pull up slightly until it hangs straight – you might like to try that too.

Great description Helen. It took me a while to understand how to do it when I first started and wish these visual instructions had been available then!

Val Brooks wrote a new post, How to prevent your machine from dragging your fabric into the needle plate 8 years, 6 months ago
A common problem when sewing fine fabrics or small pieces together is that your machine seems to want to ‘eat’ them. Here’s one way of overcoming that issue.
Simply place a small piece of paper under the fabri…
