Happy New Year and happy new UKQU website.

Hi, I’m Lyn Butler and I feel very honoured to be small part of this new exciting venture.Being part of the blogging team      ( my first time) is both challenging and a little scary!

I was introduced to patchwork, by my dear friend, 18 years ago and in that time, like most of you quilters, have made many quilts for family and friends. It has been a wonderful journey and I hope to share some of my memories over the next few months.

We are now happily retired, living in Oxfordshire, with family nearby.

Because of downsizing there was no space to sew, so we created a special room in the garden, which has been my little sanctuary   and my happy place.

I am a bit of a ‘patch potch’, and love to play with different designs, always looking for new ideas and playing with patterns.

I especially like stained glass effect.

This is a pattern by Quiltissentual.

I made this for my lovely sister in law who requested bright colours.

These are a few of my own patterns inspired by real stained glass.I thoroughly enjoy playing with the colours.

I like to make up my own strips of bias so you can choose colours to suit your needs. It always amazes me how a design in different colourways looks so completely different.

I started a patchwork group in my local WI which was great fun. In between the laughter and tears they all produced some beautiful quilts….

..and gorgeous cushions and wallhangings.

I also tutored in a couple of local quilt shops and met some amazing ladies, some of which overcame their disabilities to sew, I found them very inspiring.

I entered the WI Makower Challenge in 2013 and won, but more about that in a future  blog.

I love the stained glass pieces – and looking at your blog has given me ideas as for the layout of photos on mine! It also reminds me that I really need to get on and finish a few more things; I feel a bit like Flynn Carson (in The Librarian films and series) – loads of PHDs – so much time, so little to do – no wait, strike that – reverse it! (Film reference there – but which film?!)
