With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I have been working on some ‘hearty’ patterns. I find the pattern writing very challenging, but very gratifying, when it all goes right, patience really is a virtue!

This one is made with mini mosaics, and if you haven’t tried this, give it a go. I learnt this technique from Paula Doyle, and it works out wonderfully accurate.

Or how about a bit of weaving…

And don’t throw those selvedges away…

I love doing stained glass and really enjoy gathering the beautiful colours to make it ‘shine’.

A few weeks ago, I popped into our local charity shop, as you never know what you’re going to find, and wow! I didn’t expect to find this…

At first the vibrant colours caught my eye, then realised when I opened it out, how beautiful it was and how much work had gone into it. I ummed and arred whether to buy it, as it’s not really to my taste, but noticing the ticket was £10, and spurred on by hubby, I did.

When I got it home, I quickly unravelled it to find the label on the back, and this tells the story.

The label gives the date of the recipient’s birthday, which coincidently is the same as mine, but no year. Which is such a shame as there’s no way of finding out it’s age.

It was quickly bundled into the washing machine and put on a gentle wash. When the cycle finished, I hesitantly shook it out, hoping the colours had held. One of the little flowers fell onto the floor, so I thought this must be it’s first wash, so, probably not  very old.

It got me thinking…hmmm..who was Pat? Why was it ‘dumped’ in a charity shop? How much love these ladies were showing to their friend, and now it’s discarded like an old dish cloth.

Now, of course, I don’t know the circumstances, although I did pop back to the charity shop to ask, but to no avail.

We can only speculate, just another quilt mystery.

I would like to think that none of my gifted quilts are discarded in this way,  but will probably never know…what the eye doesn’t see..the heart doesn’t grieve.
