Oh! Happy Dance! Well you do don’t you, when a layer cake of fabric clatters unexpectedly through your letterbox for you to review?
Oh Boy! It was just up my street too! A fabulous Makower Forest, and a range that you will find in the shops now.
If you like cutesy forest animals and bold colours then this is a must.
Looking through the whole range I saw that it would be an ideal candidate to be broken up into smaller blocks, and quickly set to cutting the fabric to make Churn Dash blocks. I was off on holiday with two of my young grandsons, and I could do with a new picnic mat!
Then came the auditioning part
Which blocks worked with which colours?
This was difficult, in a way, as all the colours complimented each other beautifully, but I managed to get 9 blocks of varying colours to sit happily together.
By throwing in some sashing & cornerstones along with backing from my stash, I sandwiched it all together.
I’m not a big fan of too much quilting, and knew my stitch in the ditch can go a bit wayward, I scrolled through the decorative stitches on my machine, and came across a hemming stitch that with variegated thread would do quite nicely. I like using the variegated especially when you have multi colours to sew across.
I think it worked quite well, and basically it WAS stitched in the ditch!!!
I chose a burnt orange coloured fabric, which picked up the orange in the Makower to bind it. Having machine sewn the binding onto the quilt top, its now clipped and ready for me to hand sew on my holiday, we’ve got a 3 hour drive to Norfolk, so I may get it finished on the journey!!!
Hopefully we can use it on the beach if it doesn’t rain and if it does rain and its cold we can snuggle beneath it!!!
