Hi All
As I am sure most of you regular readers are aware, three years I moved from Milton Keynes to North Wales. Now I am settled in to my new home and facing my fourth winter, it got me thinking about the tradition of quilt making in Wales.

This blog marks the start of what I hope to be a year long discovery into Welsh Quilting. I have bought several books on the topic (that I have not got round to reading).
I plan to review these books along with any other online articles I find interesting. I am also planning a long overdue visit to the Welsh Quilt Centre in Lampeter, so I can see real life examples of traditional and contemporary Welsh quilts.
If personal funds allow I may even tie the visit in with a workshop so I can explore making a cushion using traditional techniques and patterns. If I can not afford it, I plan to at least by a kit so I can try the pattern at home.

Finally in an attempt to save money and the environment, I plan to up-cycle some old wool blankets, i got cheaply from charity shops and ebay. Although Wales is glorious when wet or sunny, we do have a lot more prolonged cold spells than when I lived down south. Don’t get me wrong I adore my adopted nation, and the rain is one of the reasons why its is so green and gorgeous, and every season is distinct and has its own unique beauty. However, living in a 1880’s stone house rather than a 1960’s brick house does mean more drafts and chilly spots. In honour of the Welsh fore-mothers of yesteryear, I am planning on making some nice warm quilts (with a wool blanket as wadding) as it is a great way to banish those chilly days and nights.
I am really looking forward to 2020 and the journey ahead of me. I welcome you all co join me on what hope to be will be an interesting odyssey.
