A tool for pressing seams – it’s that simple!

No frills, no tricks, a simple little tool that gets the job done but can be used in a multitude of ways depending on the project. Made from hard, sturdy plastic it has a slanted end with a round indentation on the top to rest your finger in while using – your finger nails will be forever grateful!

I put mine to the test on one of my current WIPs, an EPP project I’ll be teaching in January, that I’ve been making samples for.

It made light work of the glue basting and ensured sharp neat edges, ideal for sewing together with very fine thread! I personally found the pressure created was more than enough, even when folding over additional fabric into the centre seams they came out really smoothly and super flat.

The shapes I am using here are 1.5 – 3.5 inches along the edges, I definitely think you could use the Finger Presser on longer seams, you might just need to take more care when doing them and ensure you’re on a flat surface to get them to lay evenly. It also works a treat for FPP projects, particularly when doing the “stitch and flip” method.

I had no distortion on any of the seams, they all lay completely flat – considerably more so than I can get them with my actual finger!

Prices vary depending on where you shop, I have seen them range from £4 – £6 or there abouts so it’s worth having a look around before buying but should you decide to add one to your sewing kit, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
