The new Clover Desk Needle Threader turned up through my letterbox a couple of weeks ago whilst I was on holiday. (Northumbria on the East coast – my goodness it was stunning!) So I wasn’t able to test this as quickly as I’d have liked. To be honest, I’d love to have taken it with me. I always take some sewing and as we usually holiday in our caravan, the lighting can be a little hit and miss. Much like my needle threading aim these days!

It’s a plastic gadget which sits on your workspace and allows you to thread needles with ease in one simple movement. Place the thread across the slot, pop the needle eye down in the hole and then, whilst lightly holding the thread in the indents for your finger placement, push down the lever.
As a caution, this is designed for oval eye needles, not the circular ones or larger embroidery, cross stitch or tapestry needles but HOW DID IT DO?

From the first try, it worked well. Easy and very quick! Of course, the moment I passed it to a friend to have a go, it didn’t work. I don’t think she held the thread and was using a very small quilting needle so this may have impacted the needle threader. The moment I tried it again, it worked. I talked her through the method (which is clearly described in the instructions on the enclosed leaflet and the box), it worked perfectly.
The RRP is £20, which is perhaps a bit steep, but as it worked so well, I’m thinking of stocking them. You do have to be careful as this is the updated new version. The original version has been out for some years and I had tried one of these previously, without much success. This new ‘Quick Desk Needle Threader’ is much improved. It’s the sort of thing you only purchase one of so maybe I’m being a little harsh about the price.
If you’d like to see it in action, check out my Youtube video of it working. You will see how easy it is. Check it out here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKVoU8HkMZg
