In January 2017 we moved into our current house, it needed some work doing but the plot size meant more running about space for our two little boys. So we suddenly had this large back garden with mature shrubs, my husband (a frustrated lumberjack I’m sure) wanted to start cutting everything back but fortunately we waited. One plant in particular became our favourite for the very reason that as soon as the flowers faded and fell, the bush came alive with Lathyrus Sylvestris or as we all know it the perennial Sweet Pea or to some the Wood Pea. I’d only ever seen them grown on a trellis for the wonderful perfume, these sweet peas do not have the perfume but the colour and joy they bring us returns every year.

So for this exciting Garden Flower Blog Hop I wanted to choose a flower that really lifted my spirits during lockdown. I think we all had our personal battles due to Covid 19 but during one particularly stressful session of homeschooling on a day when I was really missing my parents and siblings I looked outside and the first of these sweet peas caught my eye. It felt like a glimmer of hope that good times would return.
