I don’t know about you, but sometimes I want to do something just a little different and original. About 2 yrs ago I found ice dying and it opened up a whole new world.
It can be a very random and mystical process or a little more precise but still mystical, you never really know what the dye fairies are going to give you at the end of the day.
It is a messy process but when you are working in the garden its not so much of a problem.

I created my own little bit of dye heaven in a shed where I can soak, fold and tie to my hearts content, trying out new folds just to see what happens. Its a lot fuller than this now (and the instrument of torture is now gone lol). I also had to be my own ice machine, as I think the local supermarket was wondering what I was doing with it all. Mind you, that has come in really handy in the last few weeks with all the hot weather we have had recently.

Can I replicate any of it? Not a cats chance, you never know where the dye is going to run and what it is going to mix with or even how it is going to split. And that is the beauty and fascination of this whole process.
Who would have thought that things like this…

Can end up looking like this. 🙂

And then my son got involved and wanted shirts doing so this happened, along with a lot more.

And a cushion cover, or two ..

And this is what one of the fabric pieces ended up looking like and I am happy to say has won a few ribbons too. Even better 🙂

I have done another batch this weekend and I now have a lovely radiance piece that is going to get the quilting treatment. This one is greys and teals and is yummy. Stay tuned to see how that turns out.

Yet another thing for my list……. Fabulous!
I’ve wanted to try this technique since I first heard about it. Love the results you have achieved, and its definitely made me want to find my dyes and have a go now.
That is so much more inspiring than posts about dyeing usually are! It even has me thinking…whole cloth quilt? Could I? And THAT is a first! Thank you!
Absolutely you can and I am so glad to hear this. Do it and dont forget to show us. x
Thank you, they are always a surprise
Fascinating….beautiful kaleidoscope effects.
Lynda – WOW, love the star!
It is a beauty isn’t it.
I remember tie-dying my hippie skirts when I was at uni, it was fun, but this is a whole other level altogether. Everything is so beautiful and I love your shed too. 🙂
Glorious, must have a go at this one day.
Just make sure you wear gloves 😉
Wow linda they look fab. I particularly like the first one on the washing line.
Not sure what the neighbours thing lol
That’s half the fun, keeping the neighbours wondering what you will do next 😉
