A Day Out – Whitby Queen Bee Quilters Quilt Trail
When I started quilting, I did consider if it was for me as I felt sewing was a rather solitary hobby – until I realised there is a whole community of quilters out…

Great Blog. Sometimes I wish we still lived in UK and I could visit the shops and Quilt Exhibitions. Thank you for thr vision Val x
-
Thanks for your comment Sue – I did think it was a real novelty to see quilts in such a variety of shops and it certainly made me stop and look in the shop windows where I might have just walked on past!
-
-
I so love the idea that this exhibition took with using various shop windows to display the work. Great that you enjoyed it, only wish I lived closer to have gone along to ogle at all the hard work on display.
-
Yes – I thought it was such a novel idea and a great way to share! Maybe other groups could encourage their local traders to display a quilt in their windows.
-
Our local tv shop (a friend) was celebrating a particular anniversary for his shop and he had a few bits from my group for display in his window. It was a one off never even gave it a thought to do in many windows!! A great idea for others those to follow.

Hi Sue – all I can see is a square box but I think it was supposed to be a smiley face – thank you!!
-
-
Like you I’ve kept selvedges for years, I often use them on fabric postcards to separate message from address sections on the back. Some I’ve come across have little pictures in the fabric colours (Lewis and Irene) and little quotes (Moda)
-
Thanks for visiting and taking the time to comment Suzan. I like the idea of using them on postcards – will make a separate bag for those ones that are prettier!
-
-
Thanks for stopping by Ami and taking the time to leave a comment. So glad it has made you want to save your selvedges!
-
All these great uses for them – I save the less pretty bits for tying up my plants in the garden!
-
That’s a great idea – I used to used laddered tights and stockings but as I no longer work in an office environment I don’t have a ready supply!
-
-
Cute idea Abigail. I make things with the ones I save but now I’ll be doing this too!
-
That’s good to hear! What do you make with them currently?
-
Cute small items – pin cushions, candle/mug mats & Xmas decorations. Great cheap things for craft fairs
-
Good ideas – will keep in mind.
-
-
-
-
I also wrap presents in fat quarters for those stitching friends and finish off with either selvages or ribbon, therefore nothing gets thrown away! Like you I think everyone knows to do this! Great to put it into writing for those who have yet to discover this wrapping method!
-
What a great idea to use a FQ as wrapping paper – I hadn’t thought of this!!

There are lots of tools and pens which you can use to mark your…

Great idea working freom the back! never thought of that. Have tried the tissue paper and it worked well, but a bit of a fag tearing it away after. Will definitely try working from the back – Thanks Vendulka x
-
Yes, it’s tedious getting the paper out, but sometimes it’s better than risking the lines coming back. Glad my tip is helpful!
-
-
I found working from the back really helpful in thread drawing
-
Fab ideas, Vendulka – I really must get more inventive with my quilting!
-
Great, simple ideas, thanks.

thank you!

The credit for this article should really go to Philip Jacobs as he forwarded me the information and also gave me free access to his photographs.
